Stupid Magazines

When you work with magazines, you never know.
Even when they give you an assignment, chances are (many) that the project doesn't get published. You can try to find another publication to run the story but sometimes the time you have to find it is so tight that the work just expires unpublished; magazines is a fast world.

I own a magazine and have lived the experience from both sides, the non-published professional and the one who decides not to publish something assigned; so I know.

As a stylist/photographer, it sucks when a publication rejects a job: time and energy, and so many times money, go directly to the drain.
But as a "decider", as a fashion editor, I know some works are just not what I expected and to be honest with the aesthetic of a magazine, you need to back up.

The good news is that now we have a wonderful blog that publishes very renown professionals' work that was rejected for magazines. They tell you what went wrong and how the shoot was made. Some works are good, some are not, but you will know first hand what the hell happened. The blog is called Stupid mags, and it's pure eye candy.

Full Time Sado by Tony Solís

Full time sado was made almost two years ago with the help of 'El Pana', my ex roomie who was a Venezuelan model. All the equipment and the clothes were borrowed from a rock/sado store. The day of the shooting was the last day of El Pana living on our apartment too, so I woke him at 8 am and in two hours we made this series. They are lots of images, so I tried to make a selection that represent the story I tried to tell. It couldn't be published for unknown reasons.

These polaroids were made like three years ago. We sent them to a magazine or something and they never were returned. It was a goofy work but I think they are great. The scanning is awful, but it is the only thing we have of them. Anyway, they don't look like what we are doing now at all.

milkshakeCHOCOLATE Winter 07-08 ... working on it

Hello dear readers, I'm going to be absent from bobble-bee for a week because this next Saturday December 22st is the launch of the winter 07-08 issue of milkshakeCHOCOLATE.
For those who doesn't know, I'm the editor, designer & fashion director of this web zine that I created two years ago. It is still very small but it gives me so much work already!.
The launch of every season is the hardest part... editing images and text, contacting late collaborators and working on everything to be ready on time...
For this issue we will publish interviews with Boudicca, Poltock & Walsh, Reality Studio (interview by Mahret at F&Art), Magda Malina... and more.
I will try to post little news in bobble-bee but if i don't, now you know where my mind and computer will be working on...

In the meantime, a little scoop: the amazing cover Anita from Champagne Valentine did for this issue. ^^^

Para aquellos que no lo sabeis, yo soy la editora, diseñadora y editora de moda de este web zine que cree hace ya casi dos añitos, y aunque todavia es muy pequeñita, no sabeis el trabajo que da!.
Lo peor llega ahora, los "lanzamientos" es lo que más laborioso: editar fotos y texto, contactar colaboradores que se han ido quedando atras, dejar todo listo en definitiva...
Para este número publicaremos entrevistas con Boudicca, Poltock & Walsh, Reality Studio (la entrevista la hizo Mahret de F&Art), Magda Malina... y más.
Aunque intentaré publicar aunque sean noticias cortas en bobble-bee, no os lo puedo asegurar.

De todas formas ahi os dejo la portada del numero, que la gran Anita del equipo artistico Champagne Valentine ha realizado para este número.

Supporting Beauty

In 2003 Alin Huma spent his time in Sidney trying to build up a magazine. But building up a magazine is not an easy adventure and one year spent went to nothing... or so he thought.

Fortunately he collected material enough to creat a zine who was called TA KE HA RA I.

His intention was to create a magazine following the Japanese alphabet kana, starting with the A and getting until the N.
The first issue got some distribution here and there, Alin thinks he got even famous for 15 people at least... and he wants to continuing with this project and start back again with the E issue. But before that, he hopes to get famous for at least 15 more people with this first issue, the one you're enjoying, hopefuly, right now...

I think this zine is a wonderful little piece of art and I thanks S. for letting me know about it. So hopefuly I will let 15 more people to know about it... supporting beauty and talent.
