Old Navy, old indeed

We all know that big companies, with some exceptions, are not known for being an ecological example to follow really... for some reason the bigger you are the less you care about enviromental problems. I guess you are too concern about increasing your profits that you forget to look around... I'm still quite shocking after knowing that American company Old Navy just throws away ALL the hangers once you check out the garments that have hung on them... How many hangers is that after just one day?? Can't they re-use them? What's wrong with them [the hangers and Old Navy ?? ...
I know this by fact after seeing the shop assistant that was attenting me throwing all the hangers to the garbage bin... Of course I asked her to give them to me and there you have the picture with my BRAND NEW hangers... just for free! ... amazing.

Ballons for Anthropologie

The store windows at Anthropologie in NY are these days full of balloons and colours.
It was a rainy day when i spot them, and they made me put my camera off the case and take some pictures.

80's gems

New York still keeps some gems right from the 80's, like this store front in Greenpoint, Brooklyn... Just Men. Isn't it just great?

The Mermaid Parade.- Coney Island

The Mermaid Parade is one of those typically NY events... crazy, crowdy and very fun. It takes place once a year, the first Saturday after the Summer solstice. Today was the day... and now that Coney Island is in danger of extinction,

the atmosphere felt different. It's like everyone's afraid of the end and wants to burn it while it lasts. I saw Ellen Von Umwerth, but shame on me, i didn't tell her anything. Crazy and G R e At costumes. And people willing to have their picture taken, which is always beautiful for a shy photographer like me.

New Flavors in Milkshake

Dear Bobble-Bee readers,

As some of you already know I'm the Fashion&Art Editor of online magazine Milkshake Chocolate.

The new summer 07 issue is here! :)

I am very excited for the new path this magazine is taking... it started as a very personal project where i used to feature only friends' works. I decided to push it a little bit and start contacting other artists and other journalists.
It was hard, i have to say, because as some of you know, starting a magazine from zero is hard, and people and artists are very suspicious to get involved.

So that is why i am profundly grateful to people like Sandra Backlund, or Alin Huma from TA-KE-HA-RA or dearest Jennine from The Coveted who trusted me and agreed to collaborate.

Also to my dear Antoine Mouton who did amazing pictures of Andrea Crews and photographers Lessa Millet and Sebastien Maziere for their contribution. And Josep Usano, of course!


We will be back in July 21st with new contents forthis summer issue.

Lets' Get Lost

Since my days in Rome Chet Baker has been my favourite jazz musician of all times. He was in jail for two years in Italy during the 60's and that is why I knew him there; his leyend is quite famous down there.

Last week I went to the movie theater to see the fabulous documentary that another fave of mine, photographer Bruce Webber, did in 1988 about then-alive jazz trompetist; Let's Get Lost.

It was a marvelous experience, a two hour lenght movie that worthed every second of it. One of the most beautiful doc ever seen. If you live in NY please do not miss it at Film Forum. It will be running only until June 28th.

Feeding my Vice...

... in the best of the sense.
I can say that dearest M. from Stella et Moi is like my drug dealer... she always sends me scans of editorials from Baby Baby Baby magazine as she knows that it is quite dificult for me to get them here in the US. [It sounds like a joke knowing that i have worked for them]... Thanks M, this post is dedicated to you :)

Roma

I lived in the city of Rome for almost two years, where I finished my degree in Fashion Design. So i know the city quite well. My relation with it is a little love&hate but still, i think nowadays love is what it remains. The movie ROMA by Federico Fellini can be a little difficult if you haven't lived there i wonder, because it is a plotless film that portraits the city with a succession of typical Roman scenes: the streets, the people, the restaurants, the music... it is a delightful movie though, very very funny, but as i said before, i watched it as a Roman-lived, so i dont know what it might be like watching it if you don't actually know what the movie is talking about.

In any case, for fashion lovers, at the end of the movie there is a hilarious scene that you can't miss: a runway fashion show featuring clerical garb with a papal audience, a catwalk that has nothing to envy to the ones of Jhon Galliano and the likes: noun with outrageous hats, priests in roller-skates, Pope attires with flashing lights.. then i wonder... actually Galliano should pay homage to a show like this!

There's a new magazine-blend of art and fashion, politics, film and literature in the market. One of the most interesting magazines I have seen being born since the days of Self Service or Purple. Created and Directed by 23rd years old artist Eric Madigan Heck and Anna Skog.
When someone that age does something like this, i can't help myself from saying out loud C H A P E A U.

The Spanish Barbie

When I was little in the 80's, Barbie was famous in Spain already, but not as famous as Nancy, a Barbie-alike doll made by über famous Spanish toy's company Famosa.
The doll though was born in the 60's, and that is why she is in my blog right now.
Last week I worked in a Wendy's commercial inspired by Beatles fans, in which we needed to dress 20 girls in 60's outfits.
Searching in the web images for inspiration, Nancy and her fancy dresses poped up in my computer and then i remembered the days spent playing with her at home or in school, in a moment in which Barbie was too expensive to afford. And i might say that Nancy was into fashion as any other Barbie could be. Or see the pictures and judge yourself.

Creative High Waisted

I love high waisted pants. Those who read my blog daily knows it very well...
So every time i see a picture of someone pulling them off terrific-ly great, i can't help myself from saying Y E A H.
These pair are so creative and lovely i put them up in my top-ten hight waisted pants list.

Put Your Make Up On

For two days [June 8-10], the Altman Building in Midtown Manhattan is hosting multidisciplinary conferences and lectures with new creative talents for the first annual Creators Series. Today was speaking, among others, the great British designer Gareth Pugh.
He was in town and I actually had the op to see him .. so i couldn't believe it when going to the bathroom to get physically ready for the upcoming 60 minutes in front of my hero, i run into him, both getting ready for the same event.
I will write all my impressions about this lecture as soon as i upload the pictures i took in the computer.
Meanwhile, i couldn't miss the chance of posting the fabulous project he did for Nick Knight's SHOW Studio: Make - Up -Athon, a project inspired by this old lady who came to talked to the designer wearing tooth paste as a make-up ..

Flying to The Moon

Mondays in NY can be a real pain in the butt when it's raining and it's cold as it happened yesterday.
I say it can be a pain because all the Museums and galleries are closed and theres not much to do other than being at home.

In these cases i just go to the libraries or second-hand bookstores to spend my day, thus yesterday i decided to visit the bookstore at the International Center of Photography, where you can find the most amazing books about photography in town.

There was a whole section dedicated to airplanes and Amelia Earhart that kept my attention. I knew this brilliant aviator from before but just from some pictures and some mentions here and there.

I spent almost an hour flipping through all the books about her.
My favourite was the one tittled Amelia Earhart, Image and Icon published by the ICP itself. Her personality, her style, her persona, came through all the amazing pictures that are shown in this book. I was amazed about the look of this slender and superb woman, her smile and her grip and her interesting life.

A woman that defended the independency of women in society, and criticized those who claimed we (women) couldn't do anything more interesting than knitting.. She flew around the world all by herself... and she even founded a fashion house!

This year is Amelia's anniversary, 70 years since her disappearance over the Pacific in 1937.

An Image Worths More Than A Thousand Words

I know I complaint too much about NY, but i also admit than I enjoy things in NY that i couldn't anywhere else. Like the NYPL Picture Collection.
The New York Public Library has this amazing archive of images of all kind of subjects, dates, and themes. You name it, they have it. You just walk in there, located at the 3rd floor, and explain to them the kind of images you are looking for.
It is a priceless source for inspiration. Here i photographed some of the images i used for an editorial inspired by the 70's.
The online collection doesn't seem to be bad either .. now you know from where i took the "Best Look" image for my blog ... It worths a look.

Bobble-Bee Coveted

The Coveted has become one of these everyday readings that I can't live without.
So when Jennine asked me if she could send me some questions for her interviews section, i couldn't believe my luck.
