It took me sometime to finish the publishing of this series my dear Angela Esteban Librero did of her very personal trip to Santiago de Compostela to enjoy noovo Festival, but here we have the last post and please do not hesitate to take a tour to the other "days" to really know what she is talking about ...

The night of day 3, Graham Tabor and I, presented the 3r issue of FLY to the festival.
It was nice because it was the first time I could actually see the issue. Fly #3 was beautiful as always.
My favorite video was an interview about the photographer Shirin Neshat.


* Day 4

Sunday November 4 was sadly the last day of the festival. At 12.30, there was a Presentation of ART NOTES Magazine which I couldn't attend because I had a little party the night before; Santiago, as surprising as it seems, has a lot of underground clubs and after parties going on...

The afternoon was really interesting. Starting with Henrik Vibskov's performance in the Monastery San Francisco. It was very impressive to see the models walking along a pink and blue catwalk which had bikes and music instruments. The instruments were playing thanks to some of the models that road those bikes.

At 7:00 pm we went back to the tent to see the four Fashion Shows of International Designers in the Plaza de la Quintana. Starring one of my favorites: Peter Pilotto.

You already know the London based couple, Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos. They showed an elegant collection with interesting shapes, prints and colors. I need to get those tights!!

Then the French designer Romain Kremer.
Half of his collection was Spring/Summer 2007, that was futuristic inspired, a lots of metallic fabrics and grommets. The other half was Spring/Summer 2008 with very interesting patterns.
The model that opened the show is a porn movie actor. Romain asked him to model the night before because he liked him so much...!!

Mikio Sakabe is a Japanese fashion designer who Graduated from Hogeschool Antwerpen.
He presented his Spring/Summer 2008, collection called Industrial Dolls.
This collection is much different from what he's done before, if you get the chance check his work out. He had the rest of the collection in Barcelona for the Mango Fashion Designer Award which will give 300.000 euros to the winner, one of the higher awards in fashion.

Bulgarian designer, Petar Petrov closed the festival. Please, check his S/S 08 collection. Miguel Villalobos had to model the runaway because only the very skinny models (that were just a few) could fit in his clothes!!

• Day 3

On Saturday, there was a guided visit around Santiago ; I missed it because I already have been to Santiago many times so I stay in resting… At 12:30 I ran to the presentation of the magazine: B-GUIDED, which is a very cool magazine from Spain that comes out quarterly and is both in Spanish and English.
For the cover of their last issue they featured Silvia Prada, an artist and illustrator from Barcelona who was there as well.

After the aperitivo, served as usual after the early afternoon presentation, some of us drove a little the surroundings of Santiago. Be delighted by the amazing views…..



Then back to the tent to check the Spanish designers that were showing that night.
Some people drove to Finisterre which is 2 hours away from Santiago and didn't make it for the shows… Too bad!

The night started with SinPatron, a lot of green and yellow, cool cuts and very street wear

Then Txell Miras, definitely one of my favorites of the night with her amazing patterns

Jan Iú Mes really surprised me, they are something between Spastor in their beginnings and Dior Homme by Heidi Slimane

As for the young couple Luxoir, they show a lot of color and prints trying to reinvent the Spanish man

And last but not least: Zazo&Brull

The second day of Noovo started with the presentation of You Wear It Well, a festival of short films and videos from around the world exploring themes of fashion, beauty and style created by Dino Dinco & Diane Pernet.
As far as the quality, I though some of the videos were very good but other weren't.
We had to vote for our favorite one, I choose two (I wasn't supposed to but I didn't have a choice!); Pinguis from Malcolm Pate (UK) and Fash-off: Make-Up-A-Thon' Concept and Direction: Nick Knight and Gareth Pugh (UK). I encourage everyone to see them if you get the chance.

Then we had lunch at the San Francisco Monastery.
I had some Metal Magazines so I gave some to the people at the table. Everyone liked the #7 issue, the cover by Miguel Villalobos and Graham Tabor that were on the table as well!

I had the enormous chance to meet the corset eminence, Mr. Pearl, he was part of the jury of the festival.
For those who doesn't know, Mr. Pearl is one of the most famous corset-wearers of our time, he is known for wearing a corset day and night, and having an 18 inch waist. I only can tell that meeting him was one of the best things of attending the festival, he is extremely interesting.

Before going back to the tents for the second day, we walked around Santiago and set in a gorgeous old Casino for hot chocolate and "churros" or "Chocolate con Churros".

Noovo Festival for Fashion & Photography by A. Esteban Librero, part II

The afternoon of November 1st was the first day of the Noovo Festival, starting with the opening of the photography exhibition co-curated by Diane Pernet.
On my way there, I had time to enjoy Santiago's sun and nice weather as well as it monuments.

My favorite photographers were Miguel Villalobos, Daniel Riera and James O'Brien, who I had the pleasure to meet and admire their work with. I don't know why but I did not take any images except of Miguel Villalobos.










Then the organizers of the festival did the official presentation and speeches. On the right you can see Diane Pernet between the directors Jorge Margolles y Charo González who are responsible for the Noovo Magazine as well.



Then we had some wine and Spanish "aperitivos" with friends before having lunch at San Francisco Monastery.

November 1st was also the first night for the international fashion show featuring Three As Four, Eley Kishimoto, Patrik Soderstam, Boudicca and Gareth Pugh.
They built a tent in the middle of the Plaza Quintana, which I think it was a mistake because they could have done the shows in one of the amazing cloisters of San Francisco Monastery.
To me, it was one of the best nights of Noovo; those designers set very high standards for the rest.
My favs: Boudicca and Gareth Pugh, I was very greatly surprised by the androgynous looks of Patrik Soderstam, beautiful Three As Four prints and silhouettes and I would love have seen not just S/S Eley Kishimoto.
