Socks When Is Cold

I remember, when i was little, my friend Ainhoa used to go to school with the uniform and the socks on winter.. that means she had to be freezing with her legs almost nude but she didn't seem to care really. While everyone was wearing warm wool stockings with the uniform she was just wearing her cotton socks... i always envied her for being so stylish and careless about the weather; first style, then practicity. And she was only 8 or 9 years old!

As i posted two days ago i still love the look. And it seems i'm not alone... Une Chic Fille posted this picture with this super stylish girl that i'm madly in love with..

The coat, the long sleeved T longer than the coat, the high waist skirt, and of course, the socks.

Shop Windows

I like to go out at night just to take pictures of the best shop windows.. the streets are more quite , the lighting pops-up the shop windows and there's not that many people blocking you from taking a good picture. these images are from last Nov 13th. That day was all about minimalism.

7th Avenue

This girl looked fabulous with those cut jeans and the stockings. She was just crossing the street in front of me and i quickly turned my camera on and click! . She entered in Missha store and I waited for her for almost 10 minutes as i wanted to ask her for a front picture. Unfortunately after a while i just should walked away because i was being late at work!

My House, My Style

This week New York Magazine portraits the house and personality of three nostalgics of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's, as an excuse to offer a retro shopping NYC guide to find the best buys in the city. This special extends the last year retro guide to the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Giving Thanks and Having Fun

Hope Gangloff's family hosted an unforgetable Thanksgiving day at their house in the Hamptons. I've never seen so much good food in my whole life!... the house was so amazing i couldn't stop myself from taking pictures ALL the time... a day of food, wine, music, people, and dogs!. And turkey, of course.

Lauren Moffatt

I knew about Lauren Moffatt's work during my visits to Jumelle, one of my favourite stores in Williamsburg to see what's going in the fine women's fashion. They have a nice selection of her creations but never before i was tempted to know more about her until yesterday, when i found a nice navy blue dress (the one in the picture is pink though) and decided to google her name.

Some pieces are too H&M-ish and classy for me, but in general it is a label i enjoy and like. The pieces are quite vintage looking and the quality is excellent.

It seems Lauren Moffatt started her own fashion line sewing herself the items from her sailboat home docked in NYC's Hudson River. Now those days are over and her label is sold in places like Victoria (Australia), London, Paris or Montreal.

The Spring 07 collection is probably one of the nicest; Perfect dresses for an early vacation in the French Riviera.

Vintage Men

Houndstooth is the name used for a broken-check design pattern very common in menswear during the 1930's through the 1970's.

Houndstooth is the name as well of a little fine only for men vintage shop located in Williamsburg, NY.

This is a very special shop for me and I always get lost looking through all the items and nice accessories they own; everything is well selected and has the aura of old times; Bogart's old times, not Tony Manero's.

Their beautiful outside displays keep alive the quite street in which the shop sits and once you're in you can enjoy, clothing aside, an original old movie theater fabric panel representing the face of Clark Gable.
The prices are very reasonable, men suits for $175 and up and magnificent shoes and wool jackets.

Antlered Girls

For some reason antlers are a constant theme both in Fashion and Art/Design. Even a quite known girl in the New York social art world named her blog as The Secret Life of Antlered Girls.

Placing antlers in people gives the subject certain modernity that i didn't understand why yet, although i am the first one to recognize such.

This year Banana Republic Christmas ad is a girl with, ehem, antlers. I'm sure when publicists were thinking about an idea for the new campaign they did about Santa's reindeers but never before an antler tiara has meant "cool" as it does now; I can't imagine a label as Banana Republic placing this accessory in a pretty girl for a Christmas ad before.

Even though this topic is already a little over it seems it's still creating some attraction in people.

Miteki Kudo

French magazine Jalouse interviews Opera-Garnier ballet dancer Miteki Kudo for its November 06 issue.

Miteko, dauther of Japanese choreographer Daini Kudo and French ballet dancer Noella Pontois, has been the face of Chanel Allure in last campaigns and modeled for Japanese beauty company Shiseido in the late 80's.

Miteki is preparing Giselle for the Opera-Garnier this Christmas.

A Rakish History

The New York Public Library is home of the exhibition A Rakish History Of Men's Wear.
Throgh nearly 200 illustrations, pictures, watercolor sketches... from the library itself, the show features the history of men's wear from antiquity to present.

I may say this show was a little dissapointing to me at the beginning; you enter in this cold (literally) room, all dark wood and stained-glass windows with nothing else but books. Nor cloths or manequins around. Sad.

But then you think, ok, i am not in the MET or in the FIT Museum, i am in the Library, therefore, just paper...

So you relax and start enjoing the show which, after all, it is a very very interesting one.

The show is ornanized into ten thematic and roughly chronological sections that take you through the life of outcast and powerful men.- kings, popes, courtesans, gays, transvestites, celebrities... as they were, mind you, the ones to be brave enough to do new things in fashion. You will re-discover men like Beau Brummel, Frank Sinatra, Versace... and many others which names may be not recognized but not so their fashion conquests.

The images are very descriptive and some of them are a real gift for the fashion lovers.

American Apparel Sexy Life

I always thought that the American Apparel advertisments were absolutely amateur until
Stella et Moi pointed out the work of Napoleon Habeica.

American Apparel campaigns always claim to be made in their "apartments" or "stores", and the models not others than the sales people themselves. So i always pictured the photo-shoots as an after-sales party...

But i was pretty wrong.

Napoleon, whose work reminds me the one of Terry Richardson, is one of those photographers in charge of doing these sexy campaigns that cover our most hip magazines.

These pictures have been always quite controversial due to their explicit sexuality. I personally love the ads but i can understand the love/hate relation some people have with them; in one hand they're fun and sexy but in the other hand you see many many times the girls showing what some people think is maybe too much.

Probably the most polemic thing came when in 2005 Dov Charney, AA senior partner, was charged of sexual-harassment by three employees. Then it came out all the "backstage' of those campaigns and the no-so forward policy of the company.

Patrick Süskind's Perfume

Patrick Süskind's masterpiece Perfume goes big with its adaptation for the big screen by director Tom Tykwer, the same one that directed the fast and furious Run Lola Run.

The book describes the 18th century Paris through the life of murder Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a boy who was born with a sublime gift; a sense of smell that went beyond everyone else's.

The book hooked me right from the beginning, so I can't wait to see this tale moving.

JPG 30th Anniversary in Bergdorf Goodman

Last September, the luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman celebrated the 30th Design Anniversary of Jean Paul Gaultier featuring five windows with his creations.
Under the supervision of David Hoey, senior director of the BG windows design, the creative team recreated five scenes with the most popular moments of the French Designer.
As always, Bergdorf Goodman creative team didn't disappoint a bit.

The Museum of the City of New York under the name of "Black Style Now", explores how black style has evolved in the City of New York since the days of Jazz in Harlem in the 20's to this day, where big names in the Hip Hop scene are opening their own fashion houses like Sean "Diddy" Combs (Sean John) or Kimora Lee Simmons (Baby Phat), going through the 80's hip hop scene with Run DMC or the fun girls at Salt N Pepa.
