Editorial with Napoleón Habeica

I just finished an editorial for Celeste magazine with Napoleón Habeica as photographer and the lovely and sweet Kimberly Lamb as model (to keep an eye on this girl!).

The funniest thing of it all is that I posted on Napoleón's work a year and a half ago when Stella et Moi pointed it out to me once I spoke of Mexican magazine Baby Baby Baby... and life turns around and I end up working with him months later. It's been amazing. And it has kept me busy as hell too. ^_^

Acabo de terminar un editorial para la revista Celeste con Napoleón Habeica haciendo las fotos y la dulce Kimberly Lamb de Marilyn posando. Espero que esta chica dé que hablar dentro de poco!.
Las vueltas que da la vida... hace año y medio escribí un post sobre el trabajo de Napoleón cuando Stella et Moi me habló de él al yo hacer otro post sobre la revista mexicana Baby Baby Baby... y quién me iba a decir a mí que año y medio despues acabaría haciendo algo con él!. ^_^

In Love With Skye Parrott

There's very little information about photographer Skye Parrot other than what's written in her website, but the importance of her work in fashion publications is indisputable: former Manager Editor at Self Service and studio manager for Nan Goldin, Skye is now publishing for big time magazines such 10+, Lula, The Blow Up or Preen.

One of those girls you really want to know.

Fashion Week is Heaven. Fashion Week is Hell.

Days of stress. Fashion week around the corner and I'm booked to style an editorial for Mexican magazine Celeste with German photographer Claudia Grassl.

Fashion week can be the best moment to prepare an editorial in NYC, or the worst.- the best because the BEST models are in town so you can have the chance of working with them for your shoot. The worst because all the good girls are booked to do fashion shows and it's basically impossible to do a casting.

Another reason for which one should avoid fashion week to do a photo shoot is the fact that the most important showrooms are all closed dealing with the shows and so is IMPOSSIBLE to get any clothing. Only contacts will help you to get what you want... but those contacts work in fashion, therefore they are normally working their ass off with no time to deal with you.

Claudia and me are running like crazy these days all over Manhattan and Brooklyn to find locations, clothing, models... I have to say though that I'm getting some really nice clothing so far... remember those amazing zip-up Patrik Rzepski's stockings I talked about? I was able to get them for the shoot! I'm very happy about that... :) more news very soon.

Estos dias ando de arriba para abajo, estresada pateandome la ciudad y haciendo llamadas cada hora. La fashion week la tenemos a la vuelta de la esquina y aparte estoy preparando un edito para la revista mexicana Celeste con la fotografa alemana Claudia Grassl.

Preparar un edito durante la fashion week puede ser de lo mejor, o de lo peor: por una parte tenemos a las mejores modelos en la ciudad con lo que la oportunidad de poder tenerlas es mayor que normalmente, mientras que por otra, al ser fashion week todas las chicas andan de castings para los desfiles y no hay manera de conseguir a nadie.

Por otro lado esta el tema de los showrooms que por estas fechas cierran para preparar los desfiles asi que cuesta dios y ayuda el conseguir ropa, hay que tirar de contactos pero los contactos obviamente trabajan en la industria de la moda y ellos mismos andan como locos y sin tiempo para dedicarte a encontrar ropa para tu editorial. Un infierno.
Pero bueno, la verdad que no me puedo quejar, me hubiese gustado oder tener acceso a mas ropa pero he ido consiguiendo cosas muy chulas como las medias con cremallera de Patrik Rzepski de las que hable en la pasada fashion week.

It is always refreshing to see young photographers getting big.
As a magazine devourer, i get tired sometimes of seeing the same names over and over in every page of every publication I buy; if, let's say, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott are the new "in vogue" boys, then their work will be feature in every single big magazine out there; Vogue, W, Pop, Numero...

For this reason I'm more often interested in small and independent publications which range of photographers and designers is more diverse and fresh.

Mexican magazine Baby Baby Baby is one of my vices since I discovered it in 2006, always hard to get (although now that American Apparel stores will distribute it everything will get easier) but always a surprise for the eyes.

Many of the photographers that Paola Viloria, fashion editor of the publication, chooses to be published get bigger and well known, as Mexican photographer Tony Solis whose story Cirqueras (Circus Girls), published in the spring-summer 06 issue of the magazine, has been since of great inspiration for me.

Cada vez más a menudo me interesan las revistas pequeñas y los fanzines donde al menos los fotografos y los diseñadores que publican no estan tan "quemados" como los publicados en las revistas de siempre, el Vogue, el W, Pop, Numero... donde si los fotógrafos Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott son la pareja del momento, su trabajo saldrá en al menos un edito en las páginas de las revistas antes mencionadas dando así pie a que se hable una y otra vez de ellos dejando muy poquito espacio en nuestras mentes para los que estan empezando.
La revista mexicana Baby Baby Baby es una de mis favoritas en este aspecto (no se si ha llegado a España todavia aunque se que las tiendas American Apparel van a empezar a distribuirla), donde encuentro fotografos de lo más interesante que ademas, gracias a Paola Viloria, editora de moda de la revista, han ido escalando y haciéndose cada vez más conocidos, como el mexicano Tony Solis cuyo edito Cirqueras, que publicó en el número de primavera-verano 2006 de la revista, me ha servido de fuente de inspiración desde entonces siempre que no conseguia "ropa de marca" para darme cuenta que no la necesitas para hacer cosas interesantes.

More Gainsbourg through Sorrenti's Eyes

Although Charlotte Gainsbourg is not a favourite of mine (I rather her sister Lou), I anxiously await the arrival of Paris Vogue Dec 07 to my news stand because I still remember with pleasure's chills the special Sofia Coppola the same publication did in December 2004, one of the best "specials" a magazine has ever done on someone (although Interview's Elizabeth Taylor special curated by Bruce Webber wasn't bad either).
Everyone has seen already the editorial so many bloggers has posted in their sites (thanks Mode et Utopie!), but today I found an extract that robot posted in The Fashion Spot with photographs by Mario Sorrenti... what a joy. Now I want the issue more than ever.

Beautiful Imperfection

The Coveted posted a great comment about lingerie some days ago and it happens to me that if a fave blogger talks about something, I will immediately start to pay more attention to the subject.
One of the pictures available from the latest issue of Stimulus Respond, The Magic Issue, is this lovely image of a woman wearing a quite unflattering corset; I can't think of an image more beautiful than this, an ugly piece of lingerie sexier than that one.

Yours Truly in Pimp Guides

The name of the magazine, Pimp Guides, might be a little suspicious, but they're fun and free and just published an editorial i did two months ago with photographer Jonathan Beck Leder, THE LONG WEEKEND.
We went to shoot at Woodstock, upstate New York, where we stayed in a very vintage cabin, all 70's and wood. It was a long weekend indeed. But I can't forget the last day, when the sun came out finally after two days hidden in the rain, and we discovered a pawn in front of the house. It was fun and some of us ended up taking a swim there.

I can say that dearest M. from Stella et Moi is like my drug dealer... she always sends me scans of editorials from Baby Baby Baby magazine as she knows that it is quite dificult for me to get them here in the US. Photographing Smells

When it comes to parfumes is quite difficult to make editorials because, how do you photograph a smell?

Parfume campaigns usually represent women sorrounded by exclusive enviroment and eventually a bottle of parfum near them. The ads sell a way of life rather than a parfume, because there is no way to represent or share with the public what you are really trying to sell.
The same comes with editorials, and magazines got the conclussion of just showing the parfume's packages or their bottles via photograph, or illustration, as NYLON sometimes does.

So when I flipped through the pages of the third issue of METAL magazine and saw the beautiful parfume editorial named Ivonette I thought I would never think a most beautiful way of photographing smells... the name of the bottles are in the credits, and that is. The images tell you all the rest.

It's Hard To Be Small

I'm working in a photoshoot for Milkshake Chocolate with Vicente Pouso as photographer and Metal magazine NY Fashion coordinator Angela Esteban as second stylist.

You might be thinking how lucky I am, having a magazine to work with and a good photographer and stylist with me .. (btw, the pic on the right is an image Vicente did for Oyster magazine)
But, how wrong you can be thinking that way .. Dear readers, it's very hard to be small..

We started this shooting with a lot of energy; NY fashion week just ended and we had in our minds all these images of brand new clothing, new faces and editorials.
The date for the shoot was set for today Wednesady. We began to work on it last Thursday, last day of NYFW, but all kind of problems started to happen: there were no models in town (they left for LFW), showrooms phone lines were all day busy and almost imposible to reach due to the big demand of clothing these days and last, but not least, Milkshake Chocolate went at the end of their ques to give clothing. We are too small already.
It also happened that someone agreed to lend us clothing for the shoot and at the very last minute they sent an email to Angela explaining her very politely that Vogue have just called them and of course, who's first...

So we posponed the date for this Friday and still we are having such a hard time finding showrooms to get the clothing.

Fortunately some people is being very supportive like Ohnetitel.
Watch out these two girls because something is gonna happen very soon... I can't give the scoop yet.

Let's cross fingers and hope for the best to us all. love and happy valentine's.

Harper's Bazaar Español photo-shoot

Last December 13th 2006 I assisted fashion stylist Gisela del Castillo in a photo-shoot for Harper's Bazaar Español.
The photographer was Peter Koval and the model Erin Heatherton [Marilyn].
This girl is a real sweetheart. She flew from Las Vegas that same day where she worked for a catalogue having less than 4 hours of sleep in her brain and still having a smile for everyone... I wonder how i'd be in her shoes... not the nicest girl in the world really.
The publishing date for the shoot is March 2007. You see, more than two months in advance for shooting.
Unfortunately i was very sick that day and so Peter was, flu days in the City, so i couldn't enjoy the moment as much as i would like.
My mom was in town and she came with me to take a look... that was pretty funny.
