Hussein Chalayan Named Creative Director of Puma

Wow... this new has really surprised me for good.

German sport's wear label Puma has named British-based fashion designer Hussein Chalayan its Creative Director and this seems to be a deal to last... "This isn't a short-term relationship; this is a marriage" (Chalayan).

I still remember when he confessed in an interview to i-D magazine in their March 07 issue how difficult is to survive in the fashion market for a designer like him, whose work is focused more on creativity and experimentation rather than commerciability ...

"There is the pressure to carry on doing what I want to do and on the other hand I have to survive. What would make me happier right now is for my sales to become bigger."

So i guess finally he's seeing his dreams coming to a happy end. Good for him.

even someone like chalayan is afraid of being unable to survive in the fashion industry because of his highly artistic approach. so now being about fifty he reached a level (also of popularity) that such a brand as puma asks him to collaborate. if chalayan is now financially save - how long do others have to wait and work their ass off?

ups, i have to apologize - i exaggerated a little bit to make my point clear ;-) (but also hussein looks maybe a little older) - he is only 38. again, i am sorry.

I can't really see Chalayan doing Puma. They're sporty, he's more artistically formal. Hmm guess we'll just wait and see.

alya: i think what they're trying to do is what Adidas did wit Yamamoto: Y3. To create a line super doper experimental... but we'll see, i sure am very curious!.
