She's like a Rainbow: Colors in Fashion, is the new Museum at the FIT 's fashion exhibition. It's not as impressive as the Fashion in Colors that the National Design Museum hosted last year but still, it worths a visit.
The show starts with a sample dress for each color of the rainbow plus pink, black and white.
Red: by Isabel Toledo
Orange: by Courreges
Yellow: by Christian Dior
Green: by Oscar de la Renta
Blue: by Mila Schon
Indigo: by Yves Saint Laurent
Pink: by Charles James
Black: by Issey Miyake
White: by Calvin Klein
The show is an excuse to show part of the Museum's permanet collection of more than 80,000 pieces including accesories, women's wear and menswear.
It explores the symbolism of color in culture and the diferences between East and West. For instance the meaning of white; In eastern cultures white is the color of mourning and death while black is what that means for Western cultures.
The pieces are amazingly well preserved and some of them are real gems.
There is a red cloak that really got my attention: it seemed taken directly from the Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood tale.

Red dress by James Galanos
Black dress by Yoshiki Hishinuma

I saw the Fashion in Colors exhibit at the Cooper Hewitt last winter and LOVED it! Too bad this one isn't as good, though I'd still love to see it, if only for that Yoshiki Hishinuma!
